More about the release

Fragments' is a meditation of the fluctual state of memory. How it is inconsistent, every shifting, and is influenced by storytelling. What has happened, what is engraved in time, exists constantly in a state of unsurety. Memory is fragemented moments that are always pieced together and dismantled again. The piece uses the a pepper's ghost effect with a tablet and plexiglass prism to project a hologram of statue that dismantles and rebuilds itself infinitely. The tablet is to be laid right side up on a flat surface with the prism on top aligned with a faint blue guide. At the proper viewing angle, the viewer will see the image seemingly floating in the air, detached from any physical surface.

ABOUT THE ARTIST Nathan is a theatre lighting and projection designer and new media artist whose work focuses on the many intersectionalities of design and the body, particularly in instances where the public is part of the design. Through the use of interactive technologies, his work explores how viewers influence his art and create active dialogues with it. This process often involves capturing the movement of viewers and combining it with footage to create a new form of live art that endlessly evolves. Nathan’s background in theatre reinforces his drive to make active audience engagement a key pillar of his work, pushing the importance of presence and awareness in the many forms of storytelling in Toronto. In the early stages of his career, Nathan has worked with a number of notable producers and organizations such as Crow’s Theatre, Shaw Festival, Soulpepper, Charles Street Video, Nuit Blanche, and more.
